The best known US Geologic Survey (USGS) maps are the
7.5 minute 1:24,000 topographic quadrangles. The sheet size is about 22x27 inches, and
each map covers from 49 to 64 square miles. It takes about 57,000 quads to cover the
conterminous 48 states and Hawaii.
Most USGS topo maps use brown contour lines to show the shape and elevation of the
terrain, and an assortment of excellent symbols for other land features. (Symbol sheet
free with order if requested.)
The Map Shop stocks USGS quad maps for all of South Carolina, western North Carolina, and
pieces of Georgia and Tennessee. And of course, we have indexes of the entire country and
can special order any quads we don't have in stock.
Each 7.5' quad map $8.00.
